Now that the dust from last week has been settled, we got back to what we do – code, releases, and devices.
10.1.3 Released
We pushed out the general release for CM 10.1.3, our last major release based on Android 4.2.2 code. The 10.1 will go into a perma-freeze, and we will shift focus to only working on 10.2+ code.
Big Android BBQ is coming
As October 10th approaches, we are getting excited for the BABBQ! We have talks and presentations, items for giveaways, and of course the CM sponsored party! This year’s BBQ is shaping up to be the biggest one yet!
New devices added
We welcomed a handful of devices this week and a couple of new maintainers. New devices this week include the Verizon HTC One (m7vzw), Galaxy S4 Mini Euro 3g (serrano3gxx), Galaxy Express AT&T (expressatt), and Exhilarate i577 (exhilarate). A hearty welcome to new maintainers something15525, Flyhalf205 and carsdriver as well!
Privacy Guard 2.0
Privacy Guard got an overhaul, tying into the AppOps capability Google sneaked into Android 4.3. This allows additional functionality to revoke different permissions – something many have been asking for since CM9. We’ve spotted a handful of additional patches to enhance AppOps on CAF, including data and bluetooth controls, and a new ‘ask’ setting. It looks like Google is building out this functionality as some sort of Enterprise device management tool. Interesting stuff is likely to be expected for this in the future and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
CM + OPPO
By now, you’ve likely heard that there will be a CM Edition of the Oppo N1, and Steve (cyanogen) was in Beijing for the announcement this week. We had a bit of fun showing off the phone, and OPPO responded in kind. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us to get the device ready, but we are moving along steadily.
Installer Previews and beta testing
We started giving out access to the installer to various press outlets, and the responses have been great! Geek.com did a live hangout and demo and AndroidPolice got their hands on it as well! Even the community got in on the action
We’ve also started accepting people into a beta program to try the program out on their own. Koush has setup a post on G+ with the requirements and steps on how to apply. Check it out if you are interested in helping!
cLock Now in Play Store
One of the best parts of supporting the community is being able to showcase the talent and hard work of developers. Over the years, CM has been an awesome platform to get your work noticed, and cLock has been no exception. It’s primary developer David van Tonder (dvtonder) has put up his own version onto the Play Store. Of course he’ll continue to develop and support the CM version, but now your friends/family that don’t use CM can enjoy a bit of CM functionality!
Branching out social
To prevent our social media streams from being overrun we’ve split the Cyanogen Inc. and CyanogenMod community social accounts. You can add Cyanogen Inc. on Twitter, Facebook, and on Google+. The “CyanogenMod” accounts will continue to be used to present community centric information – the new accounts will focus on the business side, and this wrap-up will continue to provide a combination of the two.
