This morning the Cyanogen Inc. team put out a press release announcing some of their recent hires as it relates to their leadership team. Normally this information wouldn’t relate much to the community side of things, but I think some of the names involved, and where their experiences, would be of interest to some of you.

Below is the press release in its unaltered form, as written by Kirt McMaster:

When Steve and I decided to form a company around the CyanogenMod Open Source project in 2012… both of us had wild ambitions to take on the world… and create an Android that knows no bounds… made for the user… and in many ways made for us. The “OS we would like to use”… no restraint… infinite possibility.

As we go from 1.2B Android smartphones today to over 5B in the next 5 years the thought of innovation slowing and mobile reaching its zenith is far from a reality. In fact, in five years AOSP will be larger than the entire global smartphone market of 1.8 billion users today!

I often joke with Steve that when they ask Spielberg how he chooses the movies he makes… his answer has always been “These are the movies I’d like to see.” Well Steve and the open source community have been making the Android they’d like to use since 2009… only now we are moving from an indie production to something a little more sophisticated… at a larger scale.

With that said, we would like to announce today several key hires on the leadership team of Cyanogen Inc. that will help us scale & build a global phenomenon built by you… for you.

  • VP of Product is Dave Herman, a talented consumer services veteran who previously held leadership roles at Hulu, Amazon and Microsoft where he pioneered a number of loved products.
  • VP of Engineering Tyler Carper, most recently Director of Engineering at HTC responsible for the team that built many of their software innovations. He also ran a tour of duty at MSFT focused on Xbox.
  • VP Global Partnerships & Distribution, Vik Natarajan who joins us from MediaTek where he was VP Corporate Marketing, managing ecosystem partnerships globally for one of the worlds leading makers of SOCs. Prior to that he spent a number of years at Broadcom.

Ultimately the most exciting thing for all of us at Cyanogen is getting to work with incredibly talented people… and building the future… faster.

Much more to come.

Kirt

One of CyanogenMod’s goals has been to bring support to as many devices as reasonably possible, and these new folks joining the Cyanogen Inc. team allow for a stronger push to support additional platforms, regions and the continued growth of CM’s reach. With the combined talent between the community of contributors, maintainers, users and now these new members, this is an exciting time to see an influx of supported devices, new users and the growth of this community. Exciting times ahead.
